Today was rough. Maybe because it was the first full day of school I've had in 10 days...but being on my feet and teaching for the whole day was hard. During my break I had to walk to the office a couple of times (in another building) and it was all I could do to make it there - shortness of breath, and I had a lot of abdominal pain. Once I sat down, I would feel better, but the longer I stayed up the more painful it would get. I feel like I'm carrying a watermelon in front of me. I hope that it was just today and that it will get better as the week goes by....otherwise it's going to be a loooong 14 or so weeks!
I talked to the doctor today about it (had another appointment) and he didn't seem too concerned about it, since everything seemed to be fine. (Egads....I weigh 201 lbs now!!!!!! ofcourse, that's with a heavy sweater and bulky-type shoes on....but STILL!!!!!) No problems whatsoever finding the heartbeat - the assistant knew just where to find it, and said that it sounded really good. So that was reassuring.
I start February off with two appointments next week - the 3rd will be with Duke Perinatal getting my Level 2 followup, and then I go in on the 5th for my 3D ultrasound/next appointment/glucose count/RhoGam shot. Busy day!!!

welcome to the reality of pregnancy.... don't worry, after you have the baby you'll forget ALL about it! Have you tried to move quickly somewhere (kinda like a jog)? You will find it is physically impossible. At least I did! It was drizzling once when I had to go to the car and so I was just going to do a kinda jog-- like you do when you don't want to get wet-- and it was physically impossible. You might try some gentle stretching/low-impact exercises. When I took that exercise class when I was pregnant it really helped. We did things like the Charleston, etc. Hope you're feeling better today. Maybe you had just gotten lazy/spoiled last week....
I guess this is why we say these last few months seem to be the looongest -- at times it was very uncomfortable, and it sure is reassuring to have the doctor tell you that all is well.
There was one point that I would be hurting/uncomfortable (guess it was how baby Kai was positioned at certain times) and I was able to put a rocking chair in my office. I'd rock as I did therapy with clients, and this movement seemed to make things a bit more tolerable. I know teaching requires being on your feet much of the time, but maybe there's something you could do about getting a chair (rocking or otherwise) put at the front of the class?
Let us know if things got better through the week. Take care!
good suggestion, Laura! I didn't really have that much pain, although when I was pregnant with Shawn I spent most of my time sitting as I was in medical records at the time doing transcription. So, I guess sitting and Shawn hearing the "tap, tap, tap" of the typewriter keys (yep... no computers at that point!) may have been soothing to him. I don't see why you couldn't have a comfortable chair in your classroom. And, maybe you can get the kids involved in helping you out more, letting them know the baby is getting bigger and becoming more uncomfortable and needing to "rock" or "sit" to help the baby. We need to get my rocking chair down to you soon!
