18 Months!

November 4, 2010

"Time keeps on slipping slipping slipping.....into the fuuuture......" Can it really be true that this little baby I held in my arms only a short year ago is now 18 months old, walking around like he owns the place (wherever he happens to be!), and is constantly into EVERYTHING??? Paul is such an amazing, sweet little boy and he brings so much joy into my life. He makes all the "stuff" I go through during the day SO worth it when I come home to see his smiling face.

School has started back - obviously....it's been 3 months since I wrote in here! We're back in the routine of getting up at the crack of dawn, and he is now going to daycare four days a week and staying in Turkey on Thursday night/Friday as he did last year. Being in the one year old class has really brought out his personality - it wasn't too long after he started back in daycare that he started walking regularly on his own. He had his 18 month appointment today, and here's the stats:

Weight - 31 lbs, 9 ozs
Height - 34 inches

He had 3 vaccinations today (one of them being the flu shot). The main concerns I have with him right now are language and food. He is not saying any words now - he babbles and makes sounds like he's trying to say words, but I have truly yet to hear him say words consistently. The doctor said that he is about 4 months behind developmentally as far as language is concerned. Maybe he should have had tubes put in his ears this past summer? I don't know - no sense in second guessing myself. I can't do anything about it now - but the doctor said that he finds this a LOT in boys. His suggestions were to make sure we're reading to him every single day and pointing out pictures and words to him. We'll be going back to see the doctor in 3 months to see how the speech is coming along.

Food is another concern of mine - he is getting pretty picky in his eating, and not enough veggies. The doctor gave me suggestions - to keep trying to feed him these things and supplement with vitamins. I have found that I have to be sneaky in giving him things - for example, he wouldn't eat the carrots I had for him on their own, but when I put them in vanilla yogurt, he ate them. And what he eats one day, he may not eat the next....I just want him to have a balanced diet and not eat like ME! LOL

I'm back....did you miss me? I kind of got sidetracked with a thousand other things I had to do. It's funny how things can change so fast - just when I was REALLY getting worried about food, the past couple of days Paul has been eating everything I've been giving him. Don't know if he's starting another growth spurt, or he's just plain downright hungry, but I'm not complaining. I also bought a potty seat for him and he's been playing with it in the living room. I'm nowhere close to actually potty training - but I do want him to get accustomed to it. I probably won't do any "formal" training until the summer when I can be with him 24/7, but the doctor did suggest to go ahead and get a seat for him. So ok, here we go!

As you can see, Paul was a turtle for Halloween. We didn't really go trick or treating, but he did go out to visit from close friends in Turkey in his costume, even though he was very sleepy. That's one thing I haven't had to worry about - he is sleeping just fine at night now, and when he does wake up, most of the time he is able to put himself back to sleep. Sometimes it's a challenge GETTING him to sleep, but once he's in his crib, that's all she wrote for the night! Which is good because I usually have a lot of schoolwork to do after he's in bed. (Adam, too, for that matter)

Hard to believe that the holidays are just around the corner. I'm looking forward to spending time with family and enjoying some time off from school! Till next time....
