Here goes!

Well, this is my first attempt EVER at blogging, but thanks to my friend Michele I decided to venture out into technology for friends and family who are interested in how things are going with me. I'm not used to making my "business" so public but what the heck! I have waited so long to get pregnant....why not enjoy it and record my thoughts and feelings as I make my way through this most likely once-in-a-lifetime experience? And what better way than to share it with those who are interested?
I think yesterday (October 7) was the first time that it REALLY hit me that I am actually carrying a real, live human being inside of me. Hearing the heartbeat, and knowing that it was a strong heartbeat, and knowing that everything so far is OK just took a load off my mind. I guess I had been watching too much Young and the Restless (Lily's failed pregnancy kinda got to me....LOL) and I couldn't help but think those "what if?" thoughts. And I also had to wonder what's wrong with me - I haven't gotten sick yet! Everyone keeps telling me that "it will come"....and other than an occasional "blah" feeling or being EXHAUSTED at the end of the day, that's about it. So sitting in the room with Adam, Mom, Adam's Mom and the practitioner....and hearing that heartbeat, and seeing the image so clearly on the screen.....WOW. WOW!!! I'M ACTUALLY GOING TO BE A MOMMY! AND ADAM'S GOING TO BE A DADDY!
Today was fun at work - I showed those most interested the picture, and most of my students also saw my little gummy bear. Some think it's going to be a boy, some think it's going to be a girl. I can't help but think that we are going to have a girl - after all, Hannah Hunter was the name that I had picked out before Adam and I were married (although several others were considered, too) and when did I find out I was pregnant? When Tropical Storm Hanna was about to come through the area! Is that fate or what?
I felt kind of blah while I was at work....VERY thirsty, but I'd been drinking so much water and I needed a little pick-me-up. I had been drinking Sierra Mist or Sprite as my only soft drinks, and it just didn't sound good. So I caved and got a MOUNTAIN DEW! I felt bad after getting it, but gosh, it was SOO good. I am not going to make this a habit in the least bit. In fact, I really am trying to cut down MAJORLY on the soft drinks. But a co-worker made me feel better when she told me she drank coffee and caffeinated drinks all throughout her pregnancy....so I really didn't feel all that bad after all. :) Now I just need to get back to Curves and start back on an exercise routine. That's my goal for the rest of this week.
Ok, so hope that you enjoy this blog - I'm hoping to write in it at least once a week until the baby's here (due date May 3rd) and who knows....maybe I'll even keep going after the baby comes. Because we all know I'll have SO MUCH TIME for this stuff then, right?

Hey Becky, this is a cool idea... glad you have all this free time to do the blog (HA!) Remember, when I was pregnant, I didn't have morning sickness, either. And, from what I remember mom telling me, she didn't have morning sickness, as well. So, you are just following tradition.

I never had "real" morning sickness either. Felt yucky occasionally, but it was never really bad. I felt more yucky and tired with Annie than Ryan (but still not too bad) but that's probably because I was chasing after Ryan at the time!

Ok, so I guess I'll also share my "MS" (morning sickness) situation! I also didn't really have morning sickness, but I did notice having a much stronger "gag reflex" (such as when flossing or brushing my teeth). I also would have occasional moments of wanting to "toss my cookies" that would come on very suddenly and unexpected. Here's a gross story for you....once several months into my pregnancy I ate a spaghetti meal because I was really hungy & feeling good. Immediately afterwards I suddenly felt like hurling & after "doing the deed," I immediately felt very hungry again! (so it didn't last)--ok, I know....TMI (too much info!)
Becky, I only hope you didn't jinx yourself by making the "no morning sickness comment!"
Also, for the record, I think Hannah is a nice name for a girl (of course not for a boy!) -- What about "Derek Jeter" for a boy? (just kidding...though I did consider the name Derek for this very reason)
P.S. Beth, why are you posting at 5:33 am (I'm not even breathing at that time!)

I am so glad that you decided to do this! You know how I am lovin' every minute of your pregnancy!
And since I can't be with you every day like I used to (back in the dark ages, LOL), this is a great way for us to get to share this adventure together!
As far as morning sickness goes, I never had it either. Although, like Laura, I experienced that much stronger gag relex, esp. when I brushed my teeth.
By the way, I STILL HAVEN'T STARTED, but don't get too excited. I took another pregnancy test this morning and it was negative. The thing is my boobs are so sore and tender. I just tell everyone that it's your fault I haven't started yet...I got pregnancy on the brain! LOL!!

I think the times on here are all screwed up. They must be posting on Pacific time, because it's now 8:21 and my last post said it was 5:20 or something like that. Oh well....I do have a gag reflex. Usually in the morning before I leave for school is when it hits me because Charlie (or Callie) takes a dump in the litter box and smells up the kitchen.....not pleasant. BTW, Laura, Adam got a kick out of the Derek Jeter comment....personally, I like the name Derek, but now that he knows the reasoning behind it he probably would never go for it! LOL I'm working on Hunter as a first name...he hasn't completely shot it down, but ultimately it is his decision if it's a boy.....
Good luck, Michele....keep me posted! You can blame it on me all you want! LOL
